Frequently asked Questions
How long is the process?
Important Program Information
Before moving forward, please note that each application must be reviewed and approved for funding or sponsorship by the Pink Rose Board of Directors.
This approval is not automatic and may take time. Approval is also not guaranteed, so it’s essential that all required documentation is submitted correctly and promptly to avoid delays.
Program Timeline and Process
The Pink Rose Recipient Program consists of FOUR sequential stages, each involving significant communication, documentation review, and processing.
Your timely participation—completing the application, submitting documentation, and attending measurement appointments—directly impacts how quickly we can move forward.
Once the order for the hairpiece is placed, it takes an average of 14 weeks to receive an estimated shipping date.
By staying on top of each step, you help us bring your/your child’s custom hairpiece to them as soon as possible. We’re here to guide and support you through the entire process.
How are wigs made?
Our Manufacturer
Our founder DIVA CHAVEZ is the direct manufacturer of all hair pieces. In order to help cut costs, her team of skilled volunteers make each piece.
What hair is used?
Diva Chavez imports hair purchased from all over the world to make each hair piece in addition to collection hair donations from local donors.
How many ponytails make a wig?
Unlike many organizations that outsource the wig-making process, Pink Rose takes a hands-on approach, working directly with DIVA CHAVEZ to ensure each hairpiece meets the highest standards of quality and care.
When properly sectioned, one donor's head of hair produces 4 to 6 ponytails. Because ponytails vary in length, texture, and color, it typically takes hair from 4 to 5 different donors to create just one wig.
This detailed, collaborative process helps us deliver natural-looking, high-quality hairpieces to the woman or adolescent we serve—at no cost to their families.
Where does my hair donation go? Do you sell my donated hair?
Our Commitment to Ethical Hair Donation
At Pink Rose, we want every donor to know their contribution is treated with care, integrity, and purpose.
Pink Rose does not sell hair.
Once donated hair is received at our facility, it is sorted by length, wrapped, and boxed for shipment to our manufacturing partner, DIVA CHAVEZ HAIR CO.
Upon arrival, the manufacturer further sorts the ponytails by color and length, organizing them into designated bins for wig production. Because of the natural variations in hair, it typically takes 20 to 30 ponytails to create just one high-quality wig.
When Hair Can’t Be Used for Wigs
If a donation arrives and is found not suitable for wig production (due to chemical treatment, damage, or other factors), we take the following steps:
-
We contact the donor directly,
-
With their permission, we help redirect the hair to another reputable organization that may be able to use it.
This ensures that every donation is respected and has the opportunity to make a difference—even if not through a Pink Rose wig.
